How to Create a Plan of Action for Your Home Workouts

Creating a Plan of Action for Your Home Workouts

Many people have concerns when it comes to working out at home.

  • Where will I find time for it?
  • How do I stay motivated?
  • What do I need to get started?
  • I don’t have a space to workout.

Working out at home is more common than you might think. Many people who work long hours or live in apartments with no gym membership prefer to work out from home as opposed to hitting up a public facility. It’s convenient and cost-effective.

Creating a routine that will enhance your body and your life can be challenging. It requires diligence and perseverance, especially when there are so many competing interests. Working out at home doesn’t need to be difficult or feel like a chore. If you follow these tips and tricks, you’ll be well on your way to having the best home workout routine of your life.

Set Tangible Goals

Your first step towards creating a productive workout routine is setting tangible goals. You need to set goals that are out of your comfort zone. There is little benefit in setting goals that are too easy to achieve. But, you also need to be realistic in your expectations. Setting higher but tangible goals will help you stay focused and motivated as you progress toward your fitness goals.

It’s often best to break down large goals into smaller, more manageable pieces. For example, if you want to get in better shape, you might want to focus on increasing your overall level of fitness rather than setting a goal like “get a six-pack by summer.”

Or you could set a goal of running a 5k by a certain date. If you’re new to working out, it’s important to pick goals that aren’t too strenuous so you can ease into them.

Plan Your Workouts in Advance

Once you’ve set your goals, it’s time to plan your workouts in advance. This will help you stay on track and get the most out of your workout time.

There are a number of ways you can go about doing this. If you like to keep things old-school, you can keep a workout journal in a standard notebook. However, we recommend you get a purpose-designed log book like the one shown here. They are set out in a logical way so that you can see your goals and fitness progress easily. If you’re more of an online person, there are many log book options available. Some are free and others are paid solutions. I personally prefer to have the hard copy log book.

The key here is to keep things simple. Don’t try to overcomplicate things or create an overly rigorous routine that’s difficult to follow. Be realistic and consistent. And remember, the best workout routines are the ones you actually follow through with.

Have a Variety of Equipment On-Hand

One of the biggest struggles of working out at home is finding a way to create a diverse workout routine without having a ton of equipment on-hand. For example, if you’re solely working with weights, you’ll be limited to certain exercises you can do. And if you don’t have a spotter, there are certain exercises that are more risky without having a spotter or the guidance of a personal trainer.

You should never do weight exercises without a spotter where there is the possibility of getting into a situation that could be life threatening. For example, bench pressing a weight that is too heavy for you and having the bar stuck on your chest or even worse, your throat.

Fortunately, there are a variety of multi-purpose tools and gadgets on the market that can help you create a diverse and effective workout routine from the comfort of your own home. For example, jump ropes, resistance bands, swiss balls, and even yoga mats can help you diversify your workout routine and create a more balanced workout routine.

Don’t Skimp on the Music

We all know that music is great for getting us worked up and feeling competitive. However, did you know that it can also be used to enhance your workout and maximize your results?

Your choice of music can have a huge impact on your workout routine.

You may want to consider investing in a pair of headphones that can block out outside noise, or a pair of over-ear headphones that can be used both at home and in public. The type of headphone you choose is really just personal preference. I’ve had both the in-ear and over-ear types. I’m currently using the Sony WH-1000XM4 and they work great for me. The one featured here is a bundle where you get the over-ear and the in-ear headphones too.

If you want to lift heavy, you may want to consider picking up some heavy metal or rap music to get you pumping. For a more relaxed workout, like yoga or stretching, try listening to some soothing classical or instrumental music. Whatever you choose, keep in mind that you want to select music that is going to keep you focused and help you achieve your goals.

Create a Home Gym With Weight Lifting Equipment

If you’re interested in lifting weights, the best thing you can do is invest in a home gym. This will allow you to max out your workout routine and create a more diverse workout routine that is specific to your needs and goals.

You can find all kinds of weight-lifting equipment online, or at your local sporting goods store. Try to steer away from purchasing equipment that is designed for commercial gyms. The quality is likely to be much better as it is designed to withstand the wear and tear of constant use, but the price will be higher too.

We think it’s best to start with a basic weight set that allows you to add or remove weight as needed. The FEIERDUN Adjustable Dumbbells allow you to do a variety of weight exercises to target different areas of the body.

This set is a 4-in-1 that can be used as dumbells, barbell, kettlebell and push-up stand and is available in 50 lbs or 70 lbs options.

Another option for finding weights is to look at local yard sales or garage sales. You can also find some good bargains on various online trash and treasure sites. Just be sure to check the condition of used fitness equipment before you buy it.

Once you have your home gym setup, you’ll have a dedicated place to work out where you can focus on your fitness. You’ll also have more freedom to create a diverse workout routine that is specific to your needs and goals.

Bottom Line

Working out at home can be a great way to stay in shape without feeling trapped in a gym. It’s more convenient, cost-effective, and can be just as effective as traditional workouts. So if you’re looking for a way to get in shape without having to invest in a gym membership, follow these tips so you can create a home workout routine that is specific to your needs and goals.
